Episode 5: The Enemy Brought a Memory with Them
The episode starts off in a train where Tsumura Tenryo (a.k.a. Mick) and Tsumura Mikage (a.k.a. Francoise) discuss the reincarnation of Yagyu Jubei. Mikage mentions that she wants to have the power of the eye-patch.
Introduction
Sai has finally finished his book and is in a state of euphoria. Now he has time to go hang out with Jiyu for the first time since they moved to the city. He and Jiyu go out for a walk while Koinosuke is left to housesit.
As they walk to the mailbox to drop off the finished manuscript, Sai asks if there's anything bothering Jiyu. She reluctantly asks about the great swordsman, Yagyu Jubei. Since Sai writes period plays, he knows him well. Sai then realizes that she might be wondering why he calls her Jubei. He reassures her that he only attached "Bei" to "Ju" to form "Jubei," nothing more.
Mikage, dressed in business attire, appears at the Nanohana house. She will pretend to be a publisher and use that as a means of gaining entrance. However, she ends up asking for the restroom when Koinosuke answers the door. After she comes out of the bathroom, she tries to snoop around, but is caught by Koinosuke who asks if she wants tea. She accepts and that leads to an uncomfortable situation where she realizes that she just can't get rid of him.
After Sai mails the manuscript, Maro and Sachi appear and are introduced to Sai. Maro falls in love with Sai and invites them to go to the dessert shop, but it turns out that it is closed on Sundays. She then wants to bring him to another dessert shop, but Sai refuses because he has to go home.
In an attempt to shake Koinosuke, Mikage convinces him to go outside and find Sai. He obediently leaves and she starts rummaging around. However, just as she is about to open Jiyu's room, Koinosuke returns with a negative. She explains that she was looking for the bathroom. When Koinosuke realizes that she knows where the bathroom is, she knocks him out. She then goes into Jiyu's room and searches for the eye-patch. She finds a picture of Jiyu's mom and comments that she's so plain (and then it shows her in the mirror. They look similar.). As she is leaving the house carrying the unconscious Koinosuke, Sai appears. They exchange glances for a split second and Sai says "Makoto." She pummels him and carries him away too.
Intermission
The "New Student Lovelies" are at the shop that is open. The Ruffians are also there and Bantaro goes crazy knowing that Jiyu is close by. Bantaro calls the waiter, who seems kinda sketchy, to bring a soda for Jiyu. The waiter says they don't do such things. But then another waiter brings a fruit salad to Jiyu and points to Shiro saying it's from him. Bantaro doesn't like this. Meanwhile, Mick is also there checking out Jiyu. He speaks with Mikage over a wrist communicator, pulls out a typewriter and types a letter on the spot, and gives the letter to Jiyu. The problem is that the letters are written in Portuguese. Fortunately, Shiro can read Portuguese and asks Jiyu to speak with him privately. He explains that Mick wants to challenge Jiyu to a fight and that he has both Sai and the idiot samurai.
At Hontsuru castle, where the hostages are held, Mick and Francoise introduce themselves to Koinosuke (Sai is still unconscious). When Jiyu appears and sees her dad and Koinosuke, she unleashes fury on Mick. Francoise asks for the eye-patch in exchange for the captives. For a second when she was looking at Mikage, Jiyu calls out "mommy." When Francoise puts on the eye-patch, though, it starts burning her. Jiyu remembers that her mom felt hot before she died and instinctively jumps in and rips the eye-patch off, leaving a smoky Mikage. Jiyu says that although they look similar, Mikage is not her mom. She transforms and whoops ass.
She frees them and tells Koinosuke not to tell Sai what happened. She then runs off. Meanwhile, Shiro reflects on the battle and realizes that Jiyu has a weakness.
