Episode 12: I Had Met a Daughter That I Never Knew

The episode starts off with the scene of Jiyu protecting his father from the possessed Shiro.

Introduction

The possessed Shiro explains to him that Taiko Daiyu has been waiting for Shiro to replace Hajime because Shiro is the best swordsman in the country. Since he is using Shiro's skills now, he won't lose. Jiyu says he'll pay for manipulating Shiro. Sai then screams at Jiyu asking what's going on, but Jiyu just says she's sorry. Then, Mikage jumps in front of them and tells Jiyu to live a normal life and that she can take care of the possessed Shiro. Mikage and possessed Shiro run off fighting.

Jiyu walks out calling her back, but Sai screams at Jiyu again. She finally admits to him that she's Jubei II and she has to help Mikage because she's the only person who can help. She then transforms in front of Sai and runs off after Mikage and the possessed Shiro.

Meanwhile, Bantaro is rehearing his love song in front of Kozaru and Ozaru. Although they don't like it, Bantaro is proud of himself. As he goes for the second practice, Mikage and the possessed Shiro battle around them. Mikage then falls on Bantaro and has her sword knocked away. However, Jubei II appears and starts to fight. When they get on their feet again, Bantaro decides to call the possessed Shiro, "Dark Shiro" (and so will I).

After the warriors leave, Sai comes and asks if they saw Jubei II. The Ruffians explain the whole story to him and tell him how hard Jiyu tried to keep it a secret from him. Sai then goes into self-doubt and tries to understand why he can't be a good father. Koinosuke then appears and wants to tell Sai something, but only gets a fist to the face. Bantaro then realizes that Jiyu is Jubei II, but the others comment that he is slow.

Intermission

In the woods, Dark Shiro and Jubei II fight. However, the move that defeated the Ryujoji 300 years ago doesn't work now. Mikage jumps into the battle and has Dark Shiro pinned to the tree. She asks Jiyu to put a sword through both her and Dark Shiro. Jubei II hesitates and Dark Shiro flicks her off like a flea. Dark Shiro disappears and Jubei II is starting to show some weaknesses.

It is nighttime and Sai is still looking for her. He tries to convince himself that it is all a dream since he can't believe that his daughter is Jubei II. He then realizes that she was trying to tell him something when she asked about Yagyu Jubei. He should have listened instead of brushing it off. Sai then remembers a conversation he had when Jiyu was still a child. He was explaining about how he worked extra to help his boss, who he felt indebted to. However, in the process he forgot what was most important, which was his family. So after her mom's death, he decided to put family first.

The Ruffians run to Hajime's house to tell him that they found Dark Shiro. Hajime knows immediately that it was the doings of Taiko Daiyu and ask to be taken to Dark Sai. Meanwhile, Sai finds Mikage in a tree. She says she couldn't protect her and wants him to call her back because the eye-patch is too powerful for her. Mikage knows firsthand the power of the eye-patch.

As Hajime is being rushed to Dark Shiro, Sai runs beside them with Mikage on his back. He goes to the doctor's house, explains his hatred for doctors, but says that he loves her and wants to help. The doctor is moved by this and promises the best treatment available. Sai then runs back to the forest, but not before taking out the annoying Koinosuke.

Jubei is on the ground in a heavy sweat. Hajime comes running saying that he'll take care of Dark Shiro, but she says he's no match. Dark Shiro then jumps down, fights a bit and disappears again. Dark Shiro knows that she's getting weak and will continue fighting little by little until she is completely overwhelmed.

The Ruffians come and call for Jiyu, but she says go away. Then Sai comes and asks for Jiyu to go home. She doesn't respond. He restates that Jubei is just a nickname and he just wants her to be Jiyu. He also tells her that she just needs to think about herself and not others. However, when Sai reaches for the eye-patch, she points her sword at him and says that she has to end this grudge and Jiyu's soul will rest in her eternally.
