Theme Information

"Yume no Naru" or rather, "Dreamy Naru," is just that, a layout for Naru when she isn't her mean and brutal self. It uses a orange colored motif, along with one of the more seductive, but non-ecchi manga drawings as the main image. It seems like I'm doing too many "bust-out" styled images which is when the image seems to be "busting out" out of the enclosing box. I don't think I'll be doing that on the next theme, nor the one after that. Here's the accompanying Winamp Skin.

Epilogue: After the OVA

So, if you've watched the OVA, you might not have been impressed with the ending. Well, don't be disappointed because that's NOT the last episode of Love Hina! In fact, the 30-minute long drama tracks on the OVA soundtrack contains the episode that continues from the very last scene of the OVA. And after listening to it, I believe that the drama tracks are supposed to be the very last episode of Love Hina. While I think episode 24 was an okay ending (better than some, ahem, ahem, Evangelion), the drama tracks really do end the series in a very very satisfying way. It also has a track where the voice actor/actresses thank the Love Hina fans (Mutsumi's seiyuu is hilarious).

I've gotten a few requests to do translations, so might as well post a brief brief track-by-track summary...SPOILERS!

Track 2: The girls are trying to follow the helicopter, but fail to catch them. Keitaro and Naru say they're going to Tokyo U.

Track 3: Back at Hinata Inn, Naru admits that she's not happy.

Track 4: Motoko gives Naru Seta's letter. She reads it and freaks out (letter says Keitaro can go study with Seta on the island).

Track 5: Naru tries to find out who Keitaro's promised girl is, but to no avail. Kanako has to leave Hinata Inn, so they have a going away party.

Track 6: At the party, the girls encircle Naru and forces her to admit why she's so worried. Keitaro accidentally walks in, Naru throws him the letter and runs outside. The other girls threaten Keitaro to go and comfort Naru.

Track 7: Naru is crying. Tama-chan comes and tells them he's leaving with Mutsumi. They return to find a letter that the girls wrote. They all left Hinata Inn for various reasons. Having nothing else to lose, Naru tells Keitaro to read the letter. He becomes excited, and Naru cries more. She finally reveals that she's not the promised girl because she's at Tokyo U. with Keitaro but she's not happy, as said in the original promise.

Track 8: That night, the two of them are alone in Hinata Inn, so they do what people their age do...get drunk. =) Keitaro is passed out. Since she's not the promised girl, Naru the resolves to leave Hinata Inn too.

Track 9: As she leaves, she has a flashback to when she first moved in to Hinata Inn. She sees herself meeting Kitsune for the first time and being very nervous. She laughs at her younger self and tells her past self that, "It'll be okay, Naru. You'll have the best days of your life here. There have been various things lately but your future is bright and shiny, I'm certain of it. I promise." (IMO, this is one of the best spoken lines in LH, you really have to listen to it). She then flashes back to that time at the playground with Keitaro, Mutsumi, and her as a toddler. The children ask adult Naru if she's at Tokyo U. and if she's happy. Keitaro asks if he and her are together. She still says she's not the girl, but the child Keitaro tells the adult Naru that "it's strange but you seem happy."

Track 10: She wakes up from her dream (and knocks over a few beer bottles in the process). She hears Keitaro sleep-talk saying that he loves her and will always be with her. Naru gives him a kiss and falls asleep herself.

Track 11:
Kitsune: They seem to be happily sleeping.
Motoko: Geez, given that I was worried and rushed back here...
Shinobu: Huh? Motoko, did you actually go back to Kyoto?
Motoko: How about you? Did you really...
Mutsumi: So it's like that...everyone was worried and deliberately (came back)...
Tama-chan: Myuu!
Kanako: I wasn't really worried...
Kuro: So your phone call to grannie was just an act...
Kanako: Shut up.
Su: I'VE COME BACK!
Shinobu: Shh...Don't do that Kaolla.
Motoko: Yeah, let's leave them the way they are.
Kitsune: Until they wake up, let's retreat to the hot springs.
Mutsumi: That's a good idea!
Motoko: Right now? (literally: from this morning?)
Kitsune: It's okay, it's okay.
Keitaro (sleep-talking): Naru...
Naru (sleep-talking): We'll be fine, I'm sure. Our future will be bright and shiny, I'm certain of it. I promise.

(THE END)

Track 12: The cast from the drama CD thank the fans for listening (the main voice actor/actresses thank the fans for enjoying the entire series)

(From what I can gather in the anime, it was never clearly revealed who the promised girl was. But honestly, I don't think it really matter if we know who the promised girl was or not. What's most important is the "promise" itself. The story starts with Keitaro making the "promise" in his childhood which guided his life. It ends with Naru making the "promise" of their future. That's my 2 cents. The dream part is similar to chapter 118 of the manga, although the dialogue is a bit different.)
