Media Use Policy

All the multimedia files I have on my site will only be for evaluation purposes only. Continue reading for specifics.

MP3s

As of August 7th, 2002, I've decided not to post MP3 samples anymore for Love Hina.

The MP3s are encoded at a very low bitrate because I seriously don't want people to be collecting these files. The reason I have them up is so visitors can get a feel for what's on the CDs so that they can make an informed decision about buying it or not. With legit anime CDs going between $20 to $40 bucks for more, I think people should have an opportunity to check out what's on the CD before committing all that money. But I do not want these MP3 files to be replacements for the genuine article.

I will not post karaoke tracks nor drama/dialogue tracks on the site. If you can sample the the vocal version of a song, then there's really no need to listen to the karaoke one. So that saves me bandwidth and disk space. The purpose of drama/dialogue tracks is to listen to the story they're telling, and usually that's only once. With music, the value proposition is to be able to enjoy it repeatedly. That's why posting lower quality files is a good idea for sampling music because people won't be able nor enjoy replaying it. If the want to enjoy it, then they'll buy the CD, hopefully (that's why purchasing information is on every CD description that I write up). With the drama tracks, once you hear the story, there's no reason to listen to it again, so might as well not post them.

Video Files

These video files are only used to give visitors an idea of what the anime series is about. That's why I'll only use video clips, trailers or some bonus items, but never the episodes themselves. From what I've seen from fan-subbed episodes is that once someone sees an episode, they're not going to go out and buy it when it's officially released. That's one of the reasons I'm against fan-subs, but that's another story.
