Episode 6: Keitaro's First Kiss Is with...?: Journey

Synopsis

The Hinata residents are concerned about Naru's and Keitaro's little trip and set off after them. First, Shinobu and Su go, and then Kitsune and Motoko follow. Meanwhile, at the Kyoto train station, Keitaro and Naru bump into Mutsum. Keitaro remembers her from the litting "bumping into" at the test. They learn that she's also failed the Tokyo U. test for the 3rd time and is returning home. However, she is anemic and needs to travel all the way to Okinawa. Naru and Keitaro end up deciding to take her home. However, instead of heading south to Okinawa, they end up going north-east towards Hokkaido. Along the way, they get spotted by the other residents who are also lost.

In the end, Naru, Keitaro, and Mutsumi take a ship to Okinawa. On the boat, the candid Mutsumi direct questions Naru's and Keitaro's love for each other. For the last leg of the trip, Mutsumi takes out a dinghy to reach her island. The trio become lost at sea and get washed away in a storm to an island. There's a little misunderstanding on the island with Naru and Keitaro, but they settle the misunderstanding. The three eventually get rescued by the Hinata Inn residents and head home, but not before getting a Hot-Springs turtle from Mutsumi as a gift.

Comparison to Manga Version

• A similar truck scene happens in the manga right before the extrance exam, but not on the expedition.
• Keitaro bumps into Mutsumi for the first time on the ship and knocks her out cold. Naru is also nearby and sees it.
• Naru and Keitaro see Mutsumi carrying a death note and assume she's suicidal.
• Shinobu and Su see Naru and Keitaro (but not the other way around) from the bullet train, not a truck.
• Mutsumi, Keitaro, and Naru are rescued by Mutsumi's uncle, but the other Hinata Girls aren't present on the rescue boat.
