Finally a manga based off a video game that I have played before. This book has been out of print for a long time (originally published in 1998), and I was fortunately enough to find it at Kinokuniya. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with it.

The character design is great (as all the stuff I choose to read). The story adheres pretty closely to what happens in the video game and having read through it again, I had a little itch to play the game over again. The biggest issue with the comic is pacing. According to the back, the original comic appeared in Fantasy DX in Sept-Oct 1998. That takes about 90 pages (chapter 1). The other 5 chapters take up about 60-70 pages combined. Whereas it took 90 pages to introduce the two main characters, the supporting cast of 6 some characters took 8 pages. All the other chapters were "original" chapters, which makes it sound like the artist just made enough extra chapters to bind it into a book. Heck, it did a faster job than my <20 minute summaries. I could give it a lower rating for that, but Lunar was one of my first RPG that I really liked and also the namesake of this blog, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. There aren't any bonus features in the book.

0. 目覚める者 (The Person Who Awakens): A very short prologue speaking about the legend of Lunar, the Blue Star, and Lucia.

1. 女神と少年 (The Goddess and the Boy): Lucia descends from the Blue Star and accompanies Hiro to find Althena. However, no matter where she goes, she cannot sense her presence. Determined to find out, she refuses to allow Hiro be involved, and so she leaves by herself only to find out that she indeed needs the help from other people.

2.　集まる者たち (People that Gather): Very fast intro of Lemina, Jean, Nall, and the antagonists.

3.　女神と人間 (The Goddess and People): Lucia starts learning about her feelings. The supporting cast all defeat their enemies. Lucia finds out what happened to Althena/Luna (from Lunar 1) and prepares to battle Zophar, the big bad guy.

4.　闇の内包する者　光を創造する者 (The Person of Darkness, The People who Create Light): Lucia gets caught by Zophar, but Hiro and gang come save her and they overthrow Zophar.

5. 未来を創る者たち (The People who Create the Future): Everyone settles down, Lucia goes back to the Blue Star. Hiro still wants to see her, so he finds a way to get to the Blue Star and is reunited with her (the epilogue ending in the game).
