While the story is pretty much the same, there are more subtle differences that I notice. The game doesn't have the couple looking for a house so seriously and Takayuki gets the phone call while he's alone. I remember this because in the game, you have to make a decision about telling Mitsuki, whether you'll do it yourself (for Mitsuki's ending) or you'll let Shinji tell her (for Haruka's ending). Also, Akane doesn't throw the flowers to the ground. She does something more sneaky. She offers to put the flowers in a vase and leaves, but comes back with different flowers. The artwork is still okay, I didn't notice anything really bad, but it still seems like it could have been better, especially in light of having watched Jubei-chan 2.
The one improvement in the animated version is that Haruka is more anatomically correct for someone who has been in a hospital bed for 3 years. The games still has very normal looking Haruka despite the text saying differently.
First edition comes with a box to hold all 7 DVDs. A slight annoyance with this, especially since I'm reviewing the DVD is that they made chapter stops at the intro, beginning of episode, and ending.
3. Mitsuki is looking for a place where Takayuki and Mitsuki can live together. We also get a glimpse at Takayuki's workplace, the restaurant with AyuMayu and Ken-san. Mitsuki visits Takayuki and spend the night together. The next day, she gets caught wearing the same clothing. During work, she sees some swimmers and spaces out in thought. That night after dinner together, they bump into Akane who despises them both.
4. All three main characters have flashbacks to when the accident occurred and are all somewhat bothered by it. That night, Takayuki seems to agree that they should live together and forget about Haruka. Some time passes but they still haven't had time to look for a new place. Meanwhile at the hospital as Akane is visiting, Haruka wakes up. She calls Takayuki that night as he's having dinner with Mitsuki. He doesn't pick it up thinking it's Ayu. Akane leaves a message and hangs up before he can pick up. They visit Haruka and are informed by the doctor that she doesn't know that three years have passed. However, he physique show of someone who hasn't been up and about in a long time. Outside, Akane reaffirms her hatred for the Mitsuki and extreme disappointment for Takayuki.
