Another one of my more anticipated releases. I read volumes 1-5 before the anime came out, and it's been more than 6 months since the last volume of the DVD was released, so it's been a long wait to say the least. From the publications, it looks like the author took a 3 month break, which can explain the delay. This volume did not disappoint.
At first, I had hoped that there would be more of a overall plot, but the stories have turned out to be isolated by chapter. I may have given a lower rating at first, but now that I'm used to the series, it's okay. The short stories are very entertaining and stick with the theme of being a "Heart-warming story."
In addition to the chapters, there are two mini chapters, each 5 pages each and 2 gag comics at the end.
38. 江戸のハイエナ (Hyena of the Edo Period): The gang is supposed to be studying, especially since Narue did poorly on her test. However, as they're waiting for Yagi to show up, they take a break with Kanaka's PlayDimension and join an intergalactic online game. Yagi shows up and logs in to see what's going on. She appears as a rare character and quickly gets attacked by the other players before she gets rescued. Since she's not supposed to know Narue's family are aliens, the other characters play it off as if she had a dream.
39. Why Can't We Be Friends?: A new student, 白石幹夫 (Mikio Shiraishi) transfered into Narue and Kazuto's school. Having suckered Kazuto into joining his new anime drawing group, he reveals that he started drawing because on the day he moved, he saw a spaceship in the sky. However, he becomes discouraged and quits drawing because of a mean club president. He then has to transfer school again, and as he's on the plane, the gang show up in a spaceship and he sees it, thereby regaining his interest and dream.
40. ご冗談でしょう監察官さん (It's a Joke, Isn't It Mr. Inspector?): The Inspector comes and tells how much trouble it is to keep the world in order, and to hide the fact that there are aliens on Earth. This leads to Bachiscaph leaving and Narue wanting to throw away her headband. However, Kanaka prevents Bachiscaph from leaving and the Inspector prevents Narue from throwing her headband into the sea.
41. 宇宙先生 (Ms. Sora): Narue gets a warning message that someone's after her. That same day, a new teacher arrives at her school, Ms. Sora. They suspect that she may be the assasin, but it turns out that she's actually there to protect Narue.
41. ママのたずねて(前編)(Mama's Visit, First Part): It's parent visit time at school and Kanaka really wants her mom to visit rather than having Bachiscaph substitute. Without telling anyone, she uses her communicator and is able to be there (via holography) talk with her mom who's far away commanding a battleship. She comes back, happier than ever thinking that her mom will come. She makes a communication link the next day and while she's with her mom, the fleet is called into action.
42. ママのたずねて (後編) (Mama's Visit, Last Part): Her mom engages and her ship goes too far that the communication link between Kanaka is broken. Kanaka worries about her mom in war, but is told later on that fighting didn't occur. Bachiscaph goes to the parent visit day.
43. TKO: One of the teachers, Mr. Kanehara has a crush on Ms. Sora, so the kids decide to have him go swimming at a water amusement park with her. There, the gang remembers that Mr. Kanehara wears a wig, so they spend the entire day looking out for him and is toupee. Kanehara has to cut the "date" short because one of his students go injured. Despite leaving his date behind, he scores some points with her by showing her that he's a genuine teacher who cares about his students.
