I'm usually not the type to buy the intro or ending songs to series that I don't follow, in this case School Rumble, but it's a Yui Horie single, so I gotta get it.

The title song is the intro for School Rumble. The song, as well as the second song included in this single, both have a swing/big band sound to them with a lot of brass. I doubt it'll become one of my favorite Yui songs, but I have to say that it's pretty unique. I don't think I've heard an anime based song that has this feel and flavor.

First pressing/limited edition comes with a bonus DVD that has the music video for the title song. I didn't care much for the band members, but Yui looks as sweet as ever. Being only 4 minutes long, why they didn't have this in LPCM is beyond me.

Finally caught up with the current issue of Dengeki Daioh. The more I read this series, the more I like it. I'm still a bit iffy on the story, but I enjoy the character development for the girls in each chapter.

Bonus is just a colored page which features the same picture as the May Dengeki Daioh.

18. Tiny joy, tearless grief: A day and life of Claes. Wakes up, does gardening, plays the piano, watches a movie that she has to write a report on, and wanders the shooting gallery where the gunpowder is a nostalgic smell. A quiet, but melancholy life.

19. ミミ・マキャヴェリ (Mimi Machiavelli): Hirusha's mom has called asking when he's going to go back to Germany. Meanwhile, Toriella and Hirusha have been dispatched to protect Maria, aka Mimi, a daughter of Mario who is wanted by the Mafia. She gets comfortable with Toriella and talks to her about hobbies and boyfriends. Mimi explains that she has a boyfriend she'd like to meet but hasn't been able to do so as she's on house arrest. When Toriella and Hirusha aren't paying attention, Mimi manages to handcuff them and run off. She's quickly abducted by the mafia, but the other members from the social welfare rescue her and arrest the kidnappers.

20. トスカ (Tosca): There has been an increase in terrorist activity and they finger it to a general. They plan to assassinate him at the Tosca opera. In between, there's talk among the girls and their superiors about why Italians like operas, especially those that deal with death.

21. 「賢い蛇、純真な鳩」 ("Clever Snake, Naive Dove"): Joze has flashbacks to when he joined the military despite his younger sister's objections. Now that they've killed the general, they need to shut down his network. They manage to ambush a transport but Joze finds out that an old friend of his from the army is working for the enemy. He sets up a friendly meeting at a cafe, but eventually has to back-stab his old pal.

22. She is a flower that blossoms in bona fides: Mostly a flashback about how Hirusha wasn't allowed to go work in the field because his supervisor didn't think he could handle the crime that was happening there. Little girls were being abducted, raped, tortured, and killed. Eventually he gets paired up with Rachelle, a doctor, and they find a little girl who had just been tortured. Rachelle revives her. Present day, Toriella has dreams about waking up in her mother's arms (i.e. Toriella was probably that girl that Rachelle saved).

I kinda expected the basketball to end that way. You can't really expect *that* much just from one player. The latter half of the story where they go train with Sanada is pretty boring. Not much going on with Mizuki and Natsuki either.

Back contains character profiles of Moe and Hayato.

24. a few minute: With only seconds to go and a point behind, St. Mariannu has the ball and it gets passed to Natsuki who's alone up-court. But he misses the pass! The ball goes out of bounds, and he apparently has leg spasms and can barely stand. However, even though they're down a point, the Fujinohara has the ball, and there's only 5 seconds to go, Natsuki still has the fighting spirit.

25. 消えない炎 (Inextinguishable Fire): Hayato has the ball and all he needs to do is just hold it. However, he goes for revenge and has a 1-on-1 with Natsuki. He manages to run pass the tired and injured Natsuki.

26. 決着 (Showdown): Hayato makes the last second, and unnecessary, shot. St. Mariannu has lost, but they've won over the crowd, impressing even the mayor.

27. 再出発 (Departing Again): While Natsuki is recuperating, he gets visited by 天宮静恵 (Shizue Amamiya), the mayor's secretary. She offers his basketball team, and the school's cheerleader (who have all just happened to stop by Natsuki's place) to go to a special training camp.

28. 市長からの贈り物 (Gift From the Mayor): The two clubs are taken to a shrine deep in the woods where they have to cross a footbridge just to get there. When they arrive, they find out that they're supposed to be training with some drunk samurai, 真田 (Sanada) who doesn't know anything about basketball. Natsuki wants to go back, but the footbridge has collapsed.

29. 真田流兵術 (Sanada-ryuu Style): With nothing else to do, the girls wash up. Natsuki spends his time dribbling and imaging facing Hayato again. Sanada comes in and at first Natsuki dismisses him as not knowing anything about basketball. However, Sanada shows him the speed of someone who has mastered Kobudo.

30. 古武道の稽古!? (Kobudo Training!?): The basketball team starts their Kobudo training. Sanada has them first try and sneak around the girls in the hot springs and get their clothing. Things don't go too well for the guys.

31. ナツキと古武道 (Natsuki and Kobudo): They continue training with balance and swordplay. Natsuki gives 110% in his training, but is told by Sanada that in Kobudo, the more you try the harder it is to attain.

32. きっかけ (Cue): After the lecture, Natsuki sees Sanada move in such a way that he looks like he's sliding through a small opening in the door. Natsuki practices that move and during the practice session with this teammates, he uses it to slip by Eiji.

Still no story yet, but the episodes are still very enjoyable. I still dislike Fukuyama though. The first DVD box is right next to me. Quite unfortunately that I couldn't make the self-imposed deadline of finishing all 8 by the time I got the DVD.

This volume comes with a bonus chapter and colored first few pages.

27. While they girls are trying to enjoy the afternoon in a small pool, Koyomi notices apparitions in the house. Fukuyama tells them that they're ghosts sent by Lisa so Yukinari and the 3 girls investigate. In only gets worse when Kirie breaks open the urn that contains the spirits.

28. While Fukuyama is away, Kirie drags the girls and Yukinari to his house to find anything they can use to exploit him. Yukinari isn't allowed in the house by the housekeeper as he's a guy. Inside, they find that Fukuyama has some life sized dolls of girls who look very much like Kirie, Koyomi, and Miharu.

29. Ebi has the symptoms of being sick so the gang tries to cure him of his illness. Turns out that he/it just ate Koyomi's teddy bear.

30. Miharu's sister, Maharu sends another agent to earth to get a husband as Koyomi hasn't come back yet. This new person is Tomoka, a young genius, or so she describes herself. She arrives in Lisa's magical cellar and escapes outside. Only later does she realize that she doesn't have a map of where she's supposed to go, but fortunately Koyomi finds her. Tomoka announces that she'll get a guy before Koyomi.

31. The hunt for guys begins. Tomoka has no problems getting men as she's a cute little girl. However, Koyomi can't even get one, even though she tries. By accident, Koyomi brings back Fukuyama to Selen. Miharu, Kirie, and Yukinari wait their return. Apparently both the men that Tomoka got and Fukuyama were rejected by the girls of Selen. Tomoka's men were only interested in little girls and in vengeance, she reveals that Fukuyama has had affairs with everyone from 0 to 115 year old women.

32. It's a cold winter and Kirie wants to go to a hot springs, except that they don't have any money. Miharu comes up with the idea that they can participate in a winter festival and compete in ice sculptures. Unfortunately, Fukuyama has that competition all covered with his nude sculptures.

33. Kirie has brought Yukinari to a bargain sale where he encounters many crazed women shoppers. Since he's allergic to females, he develops hives. The girls argue over his condition, but Miharu reaffirms that she's going to help him overcome it.
